I was starting to feel a little burned out so I tried to keep it as an easy day. In the morning I saw a 1B with sealants. I was amazed at how quickly I did it. I also liked the feeling of doing sealants again. This was my first one in second year but I've been volunteering at the Sealants for Smiles. There were a few times that I asked to do the sealants and I think that experience really helped. Especially when your equipment isn't as high tech ;) But they use this pink stuff that dries the tooth surface even more after etching. I really like that. My patient was so good though! I love working on kids! There's a lot less stress in terms of conversation :) It was too bad she didn't know much English...But a great reminder of the sealant process and reiterating that I need to learn Spanish!!!!
My afternoon pt. was my boyfriend again. I hope that doesn't violate HIPPA :s But I felt more confident with him in the chair this time. He was so sweet to let me do the crappy PE's like air powder polish on him. Then I took impressions on him because he wants bleaching trays. I was pretty proud of myself because I got both of them on the first try!!! I did almost gag him on the upper though :s haha He was impressed by my skills! I almost didn't realize which side I had cleaned last week. There was a lot of plaque buildup already! I really wanted to do a caries risk assessment on him because he does have a few suspicious lesions and his saliva might be part of it. I'll have to do that next time. But anyway, I had to deplaque the side that I did last time on top of scaling the rest. I stressed the importance of flossing and brushing and explained that he does buildup plaque very quickly. It was kind of awkward but at the same time I knew I had to do it because it would be in his best interest. I think I need to get in that mode with all of my patients. It might feel weird but at least they know and I know that I'm trying to help! Oh and when I was pouring up his impressions I realized that he has some recession on the right but not as much on the left which is something we talked about in class a few weeks ago. Just a side note...
2 years down, eternity to go!
