Yesterday was about the least productive day I've had at the VA thus far! In the morning I saw 2 quads of a Class V because he had full upper and partial lower dentures. It took a while to get through his exam so I wasn't ready in time to get a second pt.
In the afternoon they pulled in a pt who had just decided to come into the dental clinic for the first time. So we did the works on him: pano, BWX, dent and perio charting and an exam. It took a while, especially his x-rays. He has scleroderma so it was hard for him to both open and close all the way (I never knew they could have problems closing their mouth). Anyway, I asked Connie for an OD check at like 3 and she assumed it was a scale check. It was so funny, she looked at the mand ant and immediately said "Nicole I think you missed a few spots" because it was visible calculus! haha I quickly explained that it was just an OD and then her eyes got wide because of the time. He ended up being a class III, dream pt!!! But then he started acting like he was done for the day. We didn't push to start tx that day, I wish I would have tried at least one quad but I guess that we have to consider the pt. Anyway, he already had a hygiene appt. set up so I just tried to schedule his second one with me. I really hope that there are two quads left for me! I did all the prep work and I really, really, really need perio right now. I don't know what's changed from last semester but I just can't seem to find them this semester!
Things I learned and still need to work on:
1. Getting easy pts out in an hour
2. It's a good idea to take a PA of all root canals a new pt. has to make a baseline
3. Move faster so that I can get more done on my pts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like your day was a lot like mine. I only did 4 quads of a 5 all day. You gotta love doing the OD just so someone else can get all the credit. Hang in there, we are almost done!
