I passed!!! It was such a relief! I signed up to go first (not by choice) which made me really nervous but the great thing was that I got to be done with the nerves sooner :) Professor Alexander said that my explanation of why my set up was on the left side was great. Then I messed it up by getting osseous contact on the IA. I repositioned but I still hit it. Then I withdrew and yet again osseous contact. I was so frustrated! Prof. Alexander told me to think it through about how to fix the problem. I had to move higher up and buccally within my triangle. Then it was fine and breezy. I was so sure I wouldn't pass because of that! The PSA was just fine, I just need to remember to keep my angles open after I aspirate. Oh and hold the cheek out and up. The pretest wasn't that bad either. I haven't really studied LA but I got a good score on it. I guess I'll have to wait for Malamed's practice test :s
The afternoon was super busy! First I saw one of my patient's to screen for Boards. I knew she probably wouldn't qualify but the first time she came in Vining said she was Board quality. I guess we've been doing too good of a job since then ;) Next I placed some sealants on my cute 6 yr old from last wk. I felt really confident about them and seemed to work out a system so I can do one half of the mouth at a time. It was awesome! Last was a tissue evaluation of my Eaglesoft pt. He is such a sweet guy and kept pulling out the jokes. There was one spot the had gone from 3 to 6 mm so I'm pretty sure there was calculus there the first time...I really wish I would have made the time to place some Arestin but I didn't know if I should because it will be 4 months til someone will see him again. But it felt a lot like a day in private practice :)
Wow! Sorry to be so long winded!
Things I learned for LA Boards:
1. Go higher up in the IA triangle
2. Keep PSA angles open
3. Place set up on the bracket tray and then on the little table so I can carry it all over to the sharps container during tear down.
